    In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
    In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields.

    John McCrae, May 1915

Well hey! We’ve got a few people already digging this idea, and are on board.

We have our very first Ex-Pat, Broot, who will be bringing her own unique observations and views of Canadians from a Kiwi perspective! Can’t wait to read about what New Zealand thinks of us, and how we differ from their society as far as manners and social etiquette are concerned. Or do we…? Guess we’ll see! Should be interesting!

I’m so excited that we have an Ontario teacher and her second grade class getting involved too! They will be bringing us their thoughts on manners in story, picture and idea form. As I’m not yet sure what this lovely teacher will want to call her class and project yet, I won’t give them a name. Stay tuned for their first project though, I’m sure it will warm the cockles of anyone’s heart.

From the West comes Sasha, and a busier lady I’ve never met. She will be putting a saucy slant on manners from Saskatchewan, and I can’t wait for her insights.

Still looking for other writers – this is a Canadian project, and I’m looking for Canadian writers far and wide. If you’re interested in joining us, I can’t wait to hear from you. I could also use someone who has some design expertise, since I don’t really want to steal images for the site from other places, and we’re very plain-jane just now.

Knock, knock… are you out there?

    Go Canada!

I’m looking for a few regular contributors for this blog so we can flesh it out and get a movement going.

If you’re a Canadian who believes in manners, and you’re literate, interesting, and – most of all – interested in working hard for no money, please contact me privately. My email address is jenn@ (this domain… you figure it out).
